Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 10/24/2022

Our Channel Surfing TV picks include anthology series of different genres.

Our Channel Surfing TV picks of the week will scare the pants off of you first, then bring you to a galaxy far away before a rest at a relaxing luxury retreat. Find out what lurks in Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities. Walk the paths of Ahsoka and Count Dooku in Tales of the Jedi. Then book a Mediterranean stay in The White Lotus.

Unlocking Your Deepest Fears

Guillermo del Toro has made a name for himself in the horror genre from the 90s film Mimic to critically acclaimed movies such as Pan’s Labyrinth and The Shape of Water. In the upcoming Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, he’s paying it forward by showcasing various filmmakers as well as providing a two original works.

The horror anthology series consists of eight episodes specially curated by del Toro himself. The different tales are brought to life by talented minds in the field including Vincenzo Natali (Splice), David Prior (The Empty Man), and more. Instead of having all episodes available to stream on the same day, it will have an unconventional Netflix release of two episodes per day for four consecutive days.

Catch the first two episodes of Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities on Tuesday, October 25, on Netflix.

This Is Your Life

Wednesday will be a huge Star Wars day with regards to television this week. Not only do we receive a new episode of Andor, but we can also binge the upcoming Tales of the Jedi in its entirety.

The six-episode run will follow the paths of two influential characters of the prequel era. The first will center on Ahsoka Tano at different points in her lifetime while the other focuses on a young Count Dooku before he succumbs to the Dark Side and becomes Darth Tyranus. If you want another reason to watch, Liam Neeson returns to voice Qui-Gon Jinn this season.

Stream Tales of the Jedi beginning Wednesday, October 26, on Disney+.

The Not So Sweet Life

The White Lotus was initially a limited series but its high ratings and tons of Emmy awards caused a pivot towards an anthology series. With a new season arriving, we switch to another of the titular luxury hotel chain’s locations.

Season two moves from the tropical paradise of Maui to the lavish Mediterranean on the island of Sicily. It will introduce an almost entirely new cast of visitors though Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya and Jon Gries’s Greg return. Despite the new location, we’ll once again witness what both guests and employees get into during one week at the Hotel.

The season two premiere of The White Lotus is Sunday, October 30, on HBO.
