#5: White Savior #2
With wisecracking dialogue, ironic asides, and the occasional splash page that is clearly too gorgeous to clutter with words, White Savior #2 is a biting satire, carried along by a rushing stream of self-deprecating humor, inside a hilarious reappropriation of the classic Euro-centric ‘Hero’s Journey.’

#4: Captain Marvel #46
Captain Marvel #46 and the larger “Revenge of the Brood” is the book I wanted for years as an X-Men fan and as a Captain Marvel fan. Thompson’s writing perfectly balances some pure fun, comic book goodness with deeper plots that promise payoff. Each character feels like they get their moment and with Rogue coming into the fold next issue, it’s surely only going to get better.

#3: Swamp Thing: Green Hell #2
Green Hell #2 was well worth the wait, and all of its grotesqueries feel elevated and exciting. There have been no misstep in momentum, no tonal or artistic extreme spared. It belongs alongside all the true masterpieces of Swamp Thing’s long, beloved journey.

#2: Wasp #2
Ewing’s expansion of pre-established but underdeveloped plotlines makes the story richer and more captivating. Also, he understands both the lead character and the supporting cast very well. They all feel like the characters we’ve grown to love, but they do not feel stagnant. Nie and Diaz deliver stunning art that complements the writing extremely well and portrays the characters in a sense where we can quickly and clearly tell what they are feeling. While this issue featured a lot of setup with information dumps and little action sequences, it’s vital for the progression of the story, and it’s clear this will not be the norm going forward after reading the final few pages.

#1: Danger Street #3
Danger Street continues to be a special comic, blending the fantastical with the natural average world. It captures your attention with solid characters, otherworldly intrigue, and deep, absorbing humanism.
