Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of March 22, 2023

It was another great week for comics – let’s look back at the top five.

Welcome back to Fantastic Five, where we spend every Friday morning giving props to the very best comics of the week! This week Featured two comics from DC, two from Marvel, and one from Image. Let’s take a look at the books!

#5: Doctor Strange #1

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of March 22, 2023

Doctor Strange #1 is a great start to a new, happier time for Stephen Strange. Maybe more importantly, Doctor Strange feels as important as ever in the Marvel universe, as is shown here, actively helping other heroes and being a big part of keeping a balance of good in the world. Make no mistake, Doctor Strange is an exciting start you and all the magical entities out there will enjoy.

#4: Wasp #3

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of March 22, 2023

Wasp #3 by Al Ewing, Kasia Nie, and KJ Diaz is another near-perfect installment in Janet Van Dyne’s premiere solo comic series, giving us some much-needed payoff after the first two issues provided the setup. The fresh perspective on Janet Van Dyne is something I very much appreciate, and I know fans of her character will as well. While there are threads that need to be tied up, and there is only one issue left, I am sure this team will deliver a satisfying conclusion to the story.

#3: Nightwing #102

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of March 22, 2023

Nightwing #102 is a great issue that keeps the readers’ interest. Both stories develop at a healthy pace while being brought to life by two spectacular artists. For as every bit as spooky as The Grinning Man is, the unknown menace at the circus seems to be every bit as cruel. By the time the issue is over, most readers will be anxiously anticipating the next installment.

#2: Inferno Girl Red #3

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of March 22, 2023

Inferno Girl Red #3 closes the book on one of the most engaging superhero origin stories I’ve read in years. While each book in the Massiveverse has its own flair and reasons worth reading, this is the title that I feel will appeal to everyone. Anime fans, toku fans, comic book fans…there’s truly something for everyone, and I hope Cassia Costa’s light burns for a long, long time.

#1: Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #13

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of March 22, 2023

Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #13 moves at a steady pace of great storytelling. While the stories may seem familiar in nature, my enjoyment never falters. In addition, this series continues to be the perfect jumping-on point for any new readers as it showcases a high variety of characters that further contribute to the story. Whether it be Robin and Supergirl (the two most frequent co-stars), the Justice League, the Teen Titans, or the Doom Patrol, Waid has worked hard to flesh out the world by using almost every corner of the DC Universe in Batman/Superman: World’s Finest.
