If you enjoy feel good stories, thrillers, or heists, you won’t want to miss our Channel Surfing TV picks. Continue following the journey of a modest football club owned by Hollywood celebrities in a new season of Welcome to Wrexham. See the darker side of the publishing industry in The Other Black Girl. Then, learn about one of the biggest robberies in British history in The Gold.

The Fight for Promotion

Wrexham A.F.C. is one of the oldest professional football clubs in the world. A few years back, it was purchased by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Despite the pair having no previous experience in sports team management, they were able to turn the struggling club around reinvigorating interest from the community and bringing about a degree of positive change locally. The ups and downs were documented in the series Welcome to Wrexham.

Despite a strong finish during the first year under its new owners, Wrexham was unable to earn promotion to EFL Leage Two. The new season focuses on Reynolds and McElhenney’s efforts in their second year to capitalize on the momentum and breakthrough to the next tier of English football. However, with each success on the pitch, expectations and the pressure are raised. How will everyone respond?

The season two premiere of Welcome to Wrexham will air Tuesday, September 12, on FX.

A Toxic Work Culture

The Other Black Girl is a novel written by Zakiya Dalila Harris. Though it is a work of fiction, it did draw inspiration from Harris’s own experiences as an editor in publishing. Now the story is jumping off the page onto our screens with a television adaptation.

Nella Rogers feels underappreciated at her job as an editorial assistant for a big publishing house in New York City. Part of that is due to being the only black woman in the office. Nella initially is excited when another black woman named Hazel-May is hired. The two quickly hit it off but their friendship changes when Nella follows the advice of Hazel and gets into hot water with her boss. Was it good advice gone bad or a purposeful attempt to sabotage a career? While Nella looks for answers, she discovers her company’s dark secrets and history.

Stream the entire first season of The Other Black Girl beginning Wednesday, September 13, on Hulu.

A Big Score

The Brink’s-Mat robbery is one of Britain’s most notorious crimes. Six robbers broke into a warehouse near Heathrow Airport and walked away with the equivalent of almost £100 million by today’s standards. The majority of that value came from 3 metric tons of pure gold bullion.

The Gold is a dramatization of the real-life historic event. It’s a cat and mouse game between the authorities and the criminals. However, the series also looks at how the repurposing of the gold, much of which has never been recovered, birthed an international large-scale money laundering industry, and how cursed the riches were with many involved meeting untimely ends.

The series premiere of The Gold is Sunday, September 17, on Paramount+.
