The Trekkies showed out today at New York Comic Con for a panel all about IDW’s current and future Star Trek comic endeavors. IDW group editor Heather Antos moderated a panel with Star Trek writer Colin Kelly, Star Trek Defiant writer Christopher Cantwell, colorist Marissa Louise, and artists Joe Eisma and Rachael Scott. The group discussed the “Day of Blood” crossover and the next Star Trek and Defiant arcs before pulling the curtain back on some new books.
Coming January 2024 is the Defiant Annual, written by Cantwell, drawn by Ramon Rosanas, and colored by Lee Loughridge. It’s a time travel story about Tasha Yar and Commander Sela and will give fans “never-before-seen Star Trek lore.” Readers will see Tasha Yar’s courage and bravery on full display as it showcases why she was chosen to be the Enterprise’s Security Officer.
Sons of Star Trek, releasing February 2024, puts the spotlight on “Star Trek nepo babies.” Written by Morgan Hampton, drawn by Angel Hernandez, and colored by Nick Filardi, it’ll feature Jake Sisko, Alexander, and Q2. Antos mentioned, “If you’re watching current shows on TV, you’ll have an idea [of who will show up].” Kelly described them as nepo babies “in the best way as they get to see where they’ve come from.”
Perhaps the most notable, and maybe the most fun, book announced was Star Trek Lower Decks: Warp Your Own Way, an interactive 182-page graphic novel by Ryan North and Chris Fenoglio released in the fall of 2024. It’s not just a choose-your-own-adventure, Antos stated, as it’s a “game you can win” if you play your cards right. The audience in attendance was extremely enthused, and here’s to hoping for more on the way!
