Comics creator Ed Piskor has died at the age of 41

Eisner Award winning creator Ed Piskor passed away today.

Multiple sources have confirmed Ed Piskor has passed away today. It’s not yet known how he died, but what appears to be a suicide note was posted to Facebook earlier this morning. Comics Tropes was among the first to confirm his passing, along with artist Bill Sienkiewicz, and his sister.  Piskor was 41 years old.

Piskor was best known for his work on Fantagraphics graphic novel Hip Hop Family Tree, along with his YouTube show Cartoonist Kayfabe. AIPT has interviewed Piskor several times over the years, including for his work X-Men: Grand Design, and it was always abundantly clear when it came to his work, he was passionate about art, comics history, and producing something truly unique.

This news comes just weeks after two women accused Piskor of sexual misconduct, leading to the cancellation of a planned art exhibit in Pittsburgh showcasing his Hip Hop Family Tree art and just days after Cartoonist Kayfabe co-host Jim Rugg announcing that he was ending his “working relationship” with Piskor.

If you or someone you know is experiencing suicidal thoughts or a crisis, please reach out immediately to the Suicide Prevention Lifeline. A number can be found depending on our country here.

AIPT would also like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and fans of Ed Piskor. May he rest in peace.
