#5: Precious Metal #5

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of October 9, 2024

There are no more places to hide, excuses to dole out, and questions left to answer. (OK, there’s still heaps more questions, but you get it, yeah?) Now comes the time when we see what our hero’s truly made of (not just blood and mods), and I for one can’t wait to see if this epic can once again smash our loftiest expectations.

#4: The Toxic Avenger #1

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of October 9, 2024

While it stands on its own, The Toxic Avenger is a mighty continuation of that extra cheesy, extra violent film that defined an era in truly great (bad) cinema.

#3: Star Wars: Ewoks #1

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of October 9, 2024

I wasn’t sure what to expect from Star Wars: Ewoks #1, but I loved it. The art team works well together, with one style bringing a highly detailed realistic look and the other a more all-ages friendly cartoony vibe. As a fan of Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure growing up, I can’t wait for more. It’s got heart and adventure.

#2: Transformers #13

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of October 9, 2024

All in all, Transformers #13 is a hit. I’m a big fan of Starscream, and so is one of my best friends, so I know he’s gonna love this one, and I’m sure many of you will as well! And did I mention I’m in it? I wrote a letter, and you can too! Letters pages are fun! We need to bring those back to DC while we’re at it. I digress. It’s a great issue, and probably the definitive G1 Starscream origin story. I have a feeling this issue may be a significant one in the brand’s future, so make sure you don’t miss it!

#1: Absolute Batman #1

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of October 9, 2024

In Absolute Batman #1, Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta went all in to make an absolutely worthwhile issue. Working-class by day, spiked-up suit by night, this Batman is an underdog fighting against an impossible system, the odds ever stacked against him. It’s a story that everybody needs right now. It also works well even if it’s your first-ever comic.
