While interviewing the cast of HBO series The Penguin at New York Comic Con 2024, star Cristin Milioti (Sofia Falcone) discussed her previous relationship with the Batman franchise, including her favorite entry.
“I have a real affinity for Batman Returns because that was one of the first things I ever saw in theaters,” Milioti said. “And I was 7 when that movie came out. I don’t know if, like, I should have seen that movie at 7. I went with my dad.”
“That movie, just in the ways when you’re that age and you see it, it’s like in your cells,” she said with her forearm resting on the table in front of her and pointing at the spot from where one might take a blood sample. “That one has extra special meaning to me. I was Catwoman for Halloween. I was like obsessed with Michelle Pfeiffer.”
Milioti also loved Batman Forever but admitted she hadn’t revisited that one in a while. After also praising the Batman films of Christopher Nolan and Matt Reeves, she added, “And Robert Pattinson is an extraordinary Batman, but Batman Returns is just deep in my brain history, you know, and probably the one I’ve seen the most.”
The Penguin co-star Rhenzy Feliz, who plays Oz’s sidekick Victor Aguilar, also weighed in on his favorite Batman films. “I definitely have favorite movies. The Batman, the one that came out, with Matt Reeves. The ones I grew up on were the Christian Bale ones. My favorite — I struggle between The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.”
Feliz continued, “The performances are just incredible to me. And I REALLY LOVE The Dark Knight Rises. I know that everyone picks The Dark Knight, like, easily over The Dark Knight Rises but, for some reason, sticks with me. It’s great. It’s awesome. And the way it ends, it ends on such a beautiful note with the nod to Alfred. Ahhh, that to me is just the coolest thing on the planet.”

New episodes of The Penguin air Sundays on HBO.
