Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 12/09/2024

Our Channel Surfing TV picks this week include a big game, video games, and a prequel series.

Our Channel Surfing TV picks this week include a big game, video games, and a prequel series. The NFL gets Simpsonized with The Simpsons Funday Football. Explore the worlds of popular video games in Secret Level. Then witness the beginning of a serial killer who tries to do some good in Dexter: Original Sin.

Not Your Dad’s Monday Night Football

Disney is always trying to find ways of synergy between its various brands, and The Simpsons personifies that in this day in age. In the past, the animated sitcom has crossed over with Marvel, Star Wars, and the classic Disney animated films in original shorts. Now, the family is getting a little sporty.

The Simpsons Funday Football will transform the NFL’s Monday Night game into the show’s signature aesthetic. The fully immersive fan viewing experience will see the Cincinnati Bengals take on the Dallas Cowboys in Springfield’s Atom Stadium. It’s just an alternate fun broadcast to add some variety to a game and attract different viewers.

The Simpsons Funday Football airs tonight, December 9, on Disney+.

A Celebration of Games and Gamers

Secret Level is a new animated anthology series the delivers 15 episodes that focus on different video games. It has an eclectic mix drawing inspiration from popular titles such as Mega Man, Sifu, Unreal Tournament, Spelunky, and more. (We have a non-spoiler review here)

The show comes from the minds of Love, Death & Robots, who know a thing or two about compelling animated anthology series. It is created and executive produced by Tim Miller with Dave Wilson serving as executive producer and supervising director. The episodes feature big stars such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Keanu Reeves, and Kevin Hart.

Secret Level launches Tuesday, December 10, on Prime Video.

Learning The Code

The Dexter Universe is expanding from the original flagship that ran for eight seasons. We caught up with the serial killer who kills serial killers ten years later with Dexter: New Blood. With Dexter: Original Sin, we go back in time to his younger days.

The story follows the titular character’s transition from a student to an avenging murderer. It shows the origins of the Code Dexter lives by, which was developed by his father. This Code helps guide him to people who deserve to be eliminated while also keeping him off of the authority’s radar. It’s Dexter getting his boots wet in the serial killing game complete with all the growing pains.

Dexter: Original Sin premieres Friday, December 13, on Paramount+, and airs linearly on Sunday, December 15, on Showtime.
