Comic book legend Peter David dies at 68

The comic book industry titan had been battling health complications for several years.

Comics industry titan Peter David has passed away at age 68 following a years-long battle with a series of health complications, including kidney disease. Science fiction writer and friend of David, Keith DeCandido, confirmed the news on his Facebook page.

“Just got the news that Peter David finally lost his rather lengthy battle with his failing physical form last night,” DeCandido wrote. “Over the last three-and-a-half decades, he has been a respected creator, a good friend, a valued colleague, and a generally wonderful person.”

Peter David is best known in the comics world for his legendary 12-year run on Incredible Hulk in the 1980s that fundamentally transformed the character. He is also synonymous with Spider-Man, and has penned other major heroes for both Marvel and DC, including Captain Marvel and Aquaman. Most recently, David wroteΒ Symbiote Spider-Man.

David had been sick for years. A GoFundMe page was set up to help with his medical bills, which at the time of his writing had received over $100,000 in donations.

David is survived by his wife, Kathleen O’Shea David, and his daughters Ariel, Shana, Gwen, and Caroline.

AIPT extends our deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and fans of Peter David. May he rest in peace.
