Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 07/14/2025

All three of our Channel Surfing TV picks are returning shows.

All three of our Channel Surfing TV picks are returning shows. A retired hitman proves he still has it in Sakamoto Days. Follow along more adventures of the U.S.S. Enterprise before the crew you remember took over in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Then, watch the special task force responsible for defending Japan from monstrous threats in Kaiju No. 8.

Almost Killer of Killers

In his younger days, Taro Sakamoto was the most feared hitman in the criminal underworld. However, he met the love of his life and retired from the business to have a quiet existence with his family. Unfortunately, his past came back to haunt him.

In part two, Sakamoto must track down the four serial killers sent to eliminate him. He doesn’t want to kill them, due partly to his peaceful vow to his wife, but also to find intel on the mysterious Slur.

Sakamoto Days part two releases today, July 14, on Netflix.

To Boldly Go…

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds returns this week and the series has a new regular cast member. First introduced in the season two finale, Martin Quinn’s Montgomery Scott is joining the crew full time.

The season three premiere picks up with the Enterprise’s encounter with the Gorn. The gang will also find new life and civilizations along with a villain that will put them to the test. Enjoy more twists on the characters from the original series while maintaining its spirit.

The two-episode season three premiere of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds arrives Thursday, July 17, on Paramount+.

Something to Prove

Kafka Hibino went from cleaning up after kaiju to fighting them whether it’s as a member of a special military unit or by transforming into one due to ingesting a parasitic creature. Only his coworkers recently found out about the latter.

In the second season of Kaiju No. 8, Kafka needs to prove to the Defense Force, especially the leader of First Division, that he can harness his powers for good. At the same time, the dangerous Kaiju No. 9 is hiding in the shadows waiting for the perfect time to strike.

Stream the season two premiere of Kaiju No. 8 beginning Saturday, July 19, on Crunchyroll.
