#5: The Voice Said Kill #1

‘The Voice Said Kill’ #1 lures us into a newer, more all-consuming crime story

Gritty and poignant, ‘The Voice Said Kill’ is the start of a new, more lethal kind of crime story that’s about emotional responses and setting over villains and misdeeds.

#4: Absolute Wonder Woman #10

‘Absolute Wonder Woman’ #10 is the interpretation we need

Absolute Wonder Woman #10 is a fantastic issue. Minor issues aside, this continues to be a strong series and honestly my favorite Absolute title to read. As a reader, it’s a fun and crazy ride. As a reviewer, I can’t help but admire how much the series is a love letter to Wonder Woman and superhero comics as a whole. I can’t wait for more.

#3: Absolute Martian Manhunter #5

‘Absolute Martian Manhunter’ #5 takes a walk on the dark side

Absolute Martian Manhunter #5 continues to balance between being utterly outlandish and utterly profound, delivering a pair of major revelations in the process. It’ll have readers immediately scrambling for the next issue, while also wondering “how the hell are they going to top this?”

#2: Storm #10

‘Storm’ #10 kicks off the Thunder War with deafening intensity

Storm by Murewa Ayodele has quickly become the definitive solo run for one of Marvel Comics’ most prominent Black female superheroes, and continues to be an exceptional title of the new “From the Ashes” lineup of X-Men titles.

#1: Justice League Unlimited #9

‘Justice League Unlimited’ #9 is a fitting epilogue

Justice League Unlimited #9 is a fitting epilogue to “We Are Yesterday” that feels like the calm before a storm, and not to mention a return to form for the creative team’s best sensibilities that made this series when it started. A tighter narrative allows for some meditation on previous events, getting back to the series’ main story in a way that lacks the growing pains of a packed crossover. The battle with the Legion of Doom is done, but the universe is still far from safe from the Omega energy, and this new League is once again caught seriously unprepared. And with the flagship All In getting its momentum back, it’s no doubt that the future is lined with time-traveling fun and new threats on the horizon.
