Marvel sheds new light on ‘1776’ #1 celebrating America

This November, Captain America, Spider-Man and more travel back to the American Revolution in 1776, a five-issue limited series by J. Michael Straczynski, Ron Lim and Sean Damien Hill.

Ahead of America’s 250th anniversary, Marvel Comics is launching a bold new limited series this November titled 1776. The five-issue epic is written by comic book legend J. Michael Straczynski and features artwork by fan-favorite Ron Lim and acclaimed illustrator Sean Damien Hill.

First unveiled to retailers during San Diego Comic-Con, 1776 brings together a unique team of Marvel heroes who are sent back in time to the birth of the American Revolution. There, they join forces with historical figures like George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and John Adams to protect history from being altered. Blending superhero action with real-world history, the series explores how preserving the events of 1776 is essential not only to America’s future but to the heroes’ very survival.

“Revolutionary Warriors, Assemble!”

When an unknown threat begins to unravel key moments in American history, Captain America and a team of Marvel icons must act fast to protect the founding of the United States. The stakes couldn’t be higher, as the heroes navigate a volatile past to preserve the future they know.

Straczynski explained his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “One of the things I’ve always loved about Marvel is its grounding in the real world. This story lets us explore 1776 through the eyes of our characters and reflect on the meaning and cost of that pivotal year. In today’s divided climate, it’s a powerful time to revisit where we came from and what those beginnings still mean.”

1776 will feature main covers by Pete Woods, along with variant covers for issue #1 by top-tier artists like Joe Quesada, Paulo Siqueira, and Steve Rude. Plus, Phil Jimenez contributes a special variant that pays tribute to Amazing Spider-Man #583, one of the biggest-selling comics of the 2000s.

Check out preview art and preorder 1776 #1 at your local comic shop now. For more details, head to Marvel.com.
