In 1776, a new Marvel Comics miniseries launching this November, Captain America faces his most patriotic mission yet: protecting the birth of the United States from a timeline-altering threat. Written by Amazing Spider-Man and Thor writer J. Michael Straczynski, and featuring art from Ron Lim and Sean Damien Hill, the five-issue event arrives just ahead of America’s 250th anniversary in 2026.
When a mysterious force threatens to rewrite history at the dawn of the American Revolution, Cap assembles a team of Marvel heroes to ensure the founding of the nation stays intact. According to Marvel’s official description, “the fate of the nation hangs in the balance” as the heroes navigate the dangers of the past to secure the future.
Marvel has explored this time period before, most famously in 1976’s Captain America: Bicentennial Battles, where Jack Kirby sent Cap to the 1770s to fight alongside Benjamin Franklin—and even inspired the American flag design. Other time-travel escapades to the Revolution include Giant-Size Fantastic Four #2, a Skrull infiltration involving Thomas Jefferson, and battles with Kang and Moon Knight.

1776 #1 (of 5) hits comic shops on November 25.
