With Halloween approaching, our Channel Surfing TV picks include three series that are dark in their own way. Prepare for an all-new season of Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake. Bad things can’t stop happening in a small Maine town in It: Welcome to Derry. Then, Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe expands with Talamasca: The Secret Order.
Bigger and Crazier Than Ever
Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake is a spinoff series that features gender swapped alternate universe versions of Adventure Time’s Finn and Jake. When we last left off, Fionna saves her world from being erased.
The new season finds the titular pair readjusting back to a normal life. However, things can’t stay quiet forever and they soon find themselves embarking on new adventures. Meanwhile, flagship show fan favorite Huntress Wizard sets out on a desperate quest to save the original Jake.
Stream the season two premiere of Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake beginning Thursday, October 23, on HBO Max.
A Taste of Normal
Usually small town living can provide an escape from the bigger world with quiet and normalcy. That is if it’s not the town of Derry. The Maine community has a history of unexplained tragedies and child disappearances.
It: Welcome to Derry is a prequel of the more recent It films. Before The Losers Club searched the sewers of the town for Pennywise the Dancing Clown, another group of youths did the same thing in hopes of finding their missing peers or catching the supernatural figure. And It might not be the only bad thing happening in town.
The series premiere of It: Welcome to Derry airs Sunday, October 26, on HBO.
The Ones Who Watch
Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe has already introduced us to the the worlds of vampires and witches. But who are the people that keep an eye on the these and other creatures that could pose a threat to humanity? That is where the Talamasca come in.
Talamasca: The Secret Order follows a new inductee into the secret organization named Guy Anatole. When the London branch may have been compromised, Guy investigates trying to make sure sensitive information doesn’t get into the wrong hands.
Watch the series premiere of Talamasca: The Secret Order on Sunday, October 26, on AMC.
