The walls are slowly closing in around bomber pilot Milton Shaw. In Escape #1, Milton’s squad was shot out of the sky, leaving him the sole survivor stranded deep within enemy territory. Issue #2 pulled on our emotional heartstrings by revealing fractured memories of the wife and child Milton may never see again. Now, Escape #3 throws us headfirst back into the nightmare where Milton is pinned down, outgunned, and running dangerously low on options. As he battles his past and the choices that led him here, Milton embarks on one final mission: to destroy the enemy’s weapon of mass destruction, the Titan Cannon, and escape before the cavalry turns the enemy lands to ash. Writer Rick Remender and artist Daniel Acuna continue to drag us deeper into the depths of hell and warfare in their high-intensity masterpiece, Escape #3.

From the first page, Escape #3 hits like a knife to the gut. The Narenian soldiers are furious, out for blood, and closing in fast on Milton’s location. There’s a lot to love about this chapter. For starters, the pacing is relentless; intense enough to keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Remender does an excellent job balancing action and emotion through both the writing and Milton’s internal dialogue, with sharp lines like “jelly knee goes sideways,” capturing his exhaustion and making readers want to root him on and to see him get to safety.
Daniel Acuna’s art is a sight to behold. Who knew destruction could look this good? Whether it’s heaps of rubble, blown out cars, or the scorned faces of Narenian soldiers, Acuna makes every panel pulse with gritty realism. One of the standout sequences features a brutal underwater fight between Milton and an enemy soldier, an intense, cinematic moment reminiscent of ‘90s action classics like Lethal Weapon or The Long Kiss Goodnight. It adds a weight to Milton’s character, showing a man who refuses to back down no matter how outnumbered or broken he becomes.
The entire issue feels cinematic the dark tones, splashes of blood, and high-octane bursts of gunfire create an atmosphere that feels both chaotic and hauntingly beautiful. Remender’s narration and Acuna’s artwork complement each other perfectly, blending inner turmoil with explosive action.
Escape #3 is another rock-solid entry that lives up to its title, stacking the odds higher than ever against Milton Shaw. Remender and Acuna continue to prove that Escape isn’t just about the battles around us, it’s about the war within. This story is badass, unapologetic, and only continues to build momentum.
