Black Panther turns 60 next year, marking six decades of one of Marvel’s most influential and forward-thinking heroes. Alongside the celebratory Black Panther Anniversary Special #1—a one-shot packed with new stories from legendary creators—Marvel is also rolling out a line of BLACK PANTHER VARIANT COVERS illustrated by its current class of Stormbreakers.
Debuting across select titles beginning in February, these variants spotlight T’Challa alongside some of Marvel’s biggest icons, from Spider-Man to the Fantastic Four—and, of course, Storm. The collection highlights multiple eras and looks for the character, including his upcoming Black Panther: Intergalactic redesign and the Ultimate Universe interpretation. Each cover reflects a different facet of Black Panther’s legacy while showcasing the unique artistic styles of Marvel’s top rising talent.
This year’s Stormbreakers lineup includes Alessandro Cappuccio (Ultimate Wolverine), Netho Diaz (X-Men), Simone Di Meo (X-Men of Apocalypse), Juan Frigeri (Ultimates), Gurihiru (Jeff the Land Shark), Jonas Scharf (Ultimate Endgame), Geoff Shaw (Wade Wilson: Deadpool), and Luciano Vecchio (Uncanny X-Men). Selected for their standout work and boundary-pushing creativity, these artists represent the next generation of Marvel visual storytellers.
Marvel introduced the Stormbreakers program in 2020 as an evolution of its longtime Young Guns initiative, which has spotlighted rising artists for more than 15 years. Alumni of these programs—including Steve McNiven, Jim Cheung, Sara Pichelli, and Ryan Stegman—have gone on to define major events, shape landmark runs, and become some of the most celebrated illustrators in comics.
