This March, the Future Foundation teams up with Marvel Comics to launch Fantastic Four: First Foes #1, the first of four authorized one-shot comics spotlighting the Fantastic Four’s earliest days as heroes. The opener revisits a key early clash in New York City—this time with one of their most infamous adversaries, the Mad Thinker. The issue is written by longtime FF super-fan Dan Slott and illustrated by acclaimed artist Mark Buckingham.
Set in the world of Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the story returns readers to Earth-828, where a cosmic accident turns four astronauts into the planet’s newest protectors. While the city embraces its champions, the Mad Thinker is anything but impressed—and he sets out to pit the “city of tomorrow” against the heroes who saved it.
Alongside the main story, the one-shot includes a two-page “Fantastic Science” backup inspired by Reed Richards’ in-universe educational programming. The feature is written by Ryan North, who currently steers Marvel’s ongoing Fantastic Four series, making it a bonus geared toward readers of all ages.
Fantastic Four: First Foes #1 follows the sold-out Fantastic Four: First Steps #1 one-shot released earlier this year, which was written by Matt Fraction and also drawn by Buckingham. The new issue features a main cover and variant by Phil Noto, plus an additional variant from Kaare Andrews.
Fans can preorder the issue now at their local comic shop ahead of its March release. The Fantastic Four: First Steps is currently streaming on Disney+.
