Skybound releaes preview of Steve Ditko’s Spider-Man Artist’s Edition

A massive Artist’s Edition brings Amazing Fantasy #15 and Ditko’s most iconic pages to life at full size, revealing details fans were never meant to see this clearly.

Today, Skybound and Image Comics, in partnership with Scott Dunbier’s Act 4 Publishing, revealed a first look at The Amazing Spider-Man by Steve Ditko Artist’s Edition, offering fans a rare chance to experience Ditko’s original artwork at full scale ahead of its release this summer.

Arriving in comic shops on June 24 and bookstores on July 21, 2026, the oversized 15” x 22” Artist’s Edition presents some of the most important Spider-Man material ever created. The collection includes Amazing Fantasy #15, featuring Spider-Man’s first appearance, along with three complete issues: The Amazing Spider-Man #20, #26, and #33. The latter is often considered the peak of Ditko’s work on the character, making this edition especially notable for longtime fans and collectors.

Announced back in September, beyond the complete issues, the book is packed with additional material, including iconic splash pages, covers, and story pages, all scanned directly from the original art. One of the standout features is a selection of rarely seen pencil work from The Amazing Spider-Man #31, presented alongside the final inked pages. The edition also pulls in artwork from more than 20 other issues, giving readers a broader look at Ditko’s process and evolution.

Scott Dunbier, who has long championed Artist’s Editions, shared his excitement for the project, calling Ditko’s Spider-Man work a personal “holy grail” and noting how meaningful it is to finally see this material presented at its original size.

Skybound SVP and Publisher Sean Mackiewicz emphasized the emotional impact of Ditko’s work, pointing to how these pages capture the energy and drama that helped define Marvel Comics and influence generations of artists.

Like other Artist’s Editions, this release recreates the original art as closely as possible. While the pages may appear black and white at first glance, they are scanned in full color to preserve every detail, from ink textures to blue pencil marks. The result is an experience that mirrors viewing the artwork in person, offering a deeper appreciation of Ditko’s linework and storytelling choices.

For fans, this is more than a retrospective collection. It is a behind-the-scenes look at the craft that helped shape one of comics’ most enduring heroes, presented in a format that highlights every stroke of Ditko’s hand.
