‘Fantastic Four’ #15 sends the team spiraling through time for a wild 65th anniversary story

Ryan North and Humberto Ramos spotlight the impact of Marvel’s first family across both the Marvel Universe and real-world history in FANTASTIC FOUR #15, an oversized 65th anniversary issue this August.

Marvel is celebrating 65 years of the Fantastic Four with a special oversized issue this August, as writer Ryan North and artist Humberto Ramos take the team on a time-spanning adventure in Fantastic Four #15.

The anniversary issue sends Reed, Sue, Ben, and Johnny across different eras of their own history, with their personal timelines thrown into chaos. Stranded and unable to return home on their own, the team must rely on an unexpected ally to guide them back to the present, where a deadly threat is waiting.

The Fantastic Four first debuted in Fantastic Four (1961) #1 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, a landmark issue that helped launch the modern Marvel Universe. Over the decades, the series has been shaped by generations of creators, with North and Ramos now continuing that legacy through stories that highlight the team’s bond and sense of discovery.

“Fantastic Four is a comic that matters like few others in the medium, so it’s been a real honour to get to write both our 700th issue, and now this, our 65th anniversary special,” said Ryan North. “For this oversized issue we tell a story that runs across time – in two directions at once – while also getting to see the true effect the Fantastic Four have had on their world, and each other. It’s got sci-fi, it’s got relationships, it’s got thrills and chills and fun and adventure and… wait, it says here it’s also got a major turning point in Johnny’s moustache? That can’t be right, can it??”

Executive editor Tom Brevoort also highlighted how the issue will connect past and present. “To commemorate the Fantastic Four’s 65th year of publication, Ryan North and Humberto Ramos are taking the team back in time—both figuratively and literally!” Brevoort said. “And because this is an anniversary issue, the story will also incorporate some classic moments by key FF creators of the past, including Jack Kirby, John Buscema, John Byrne and Steve Epting—all seen with a new wrinkle added. It’s the sort of mind-bending adventure that fans have come to expect from this award-winning creative team, and the sort of story that will help keep the series exciting and innovative for decades to come.”

The issue promises a large-scale story that spans centuries, with the team facing defeat as they are pulled into the past and forced to fight their way forward again. Along the way, readers can expect classic science fiction ideas, character-driven moments, and a few surprises, including a strange spotlight on Johnny Storm’s evolving look.

Fantastic Four #15 features a main cover by Humberto Ramos and will be available in comic shops on August 5.

Also arriving that day is Fantastic Four: 65 Years of the World’s Greatest Comic Covers, a special collection showcasing more than 700 covers from across the team’s history, along with commentary from creators who have helped define Marvel’s first family.
