Black Panther and Namor journey into Hell in new ‘Doomed!’ limited series

Demonic attacks on Wakanda and Atlantis send T’Challa and Namor into the underworld, where Doctor Doom awaits.

Two of Marvel’s most powerful rulers are heading into the underworld this September.

Marvel has announced Black Panther/Namor: Doomed!, a five-issue limited series from writers Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan and artist Stefano Nesi. The series brings T’Challa and Namor together for a dangerous mission after both Wakanda and Atlantis come under attack from demonic forces.

Spinning out of developments in Avengers: Armageddon and Captain America, the story follows the uneasy allies as they investigate the source of the supernatural threat. Their search leads them into Hell itself, where they encounter an unexpected figure: Doctor Doom.

The project taps into one of Marvel’s longest-running rivalries. While Black Panther and Namor have occasionally fought alongside one another, their history has largely been defined by distrust, political conflict, and personal grudges. Now they must put those differences aside as they face a threat tied to the recently deceased Doom.

According to Marvel, the discoveries awaiting them in the underworld will have major consequences for both heroes and their kingdoms.

The creative team was eager to explore the dynamic between three of Marvel’s most complex leaders.

“Truly, we feel like the most fortunate writers on Earth to get to tell stories with any of the iconic heroes from the limitless sandbox of the Marvel Universe, let alone icons as monumental as T’Challa, Namor, and Victor Von Doom,” Parker shared. “Black Panther is one of the coolest and most inspiring figures in all of fiction, and the Sub-Mariner’s iconic rivalry with him as one of the founding members of Marvel dating back to 1939 is the most hilarious and compelling dynamic we could hope to put our own personal spin on. We can’t wait to show readers the unimaginable dangers that lie ahead in this bold new era.”

Sheridan pointed to the relationships between the three characters as a key reason the series appealed to him.

“T’Challa, Namor, and Doom are among the richest characters comics have to offer,” Sheridan added. “Not only are all three of them iconic in their own right, but the interpersonal relationships they have with each other seem to be an endless wellspring for enthralling stories. These are colossal characters, so we’re throwing a story with colossal stakes at them – a story that finds Black Panther, Sub-Mariner, and Doctor Doom all in unique, new roles within the Marvel Universe. For those reasons and many others, working on DOOMED has been a real privilege.”

Marvel has also revealed the main cover by Dave Johnson ahead of the series’ September debut.
