Oni Press and William M. Gaines Agent, Inc. have announced Artists From the Abyss, a new series of one-shot specials celebrating the artists helping define the modern era of EC Comics. Launching this November, the line kicks off with Artists From the Abyss: Charlie Adlard #1, spotlighting the acclaimed artist behind The Walking Dead and Of the Earth.
The oversized special collects Adlard’s standout work from Oni’s EC Comics revival alongside an all-new original story written by frequent collaborator Chris Condon (Ultimate Wolverine, That Texas Blood).
The new anthology line shines a light on the artists behind EC’s latest wave of horror comics, pairing previously published stories with brand-new tales created specifically for each volume.
Following Adlard’s debut issue, the series will continue monthly with additional spotlights on:
- Artists From the Abyss: David Lapham #1 (December 2026)
- Artists From the Abyss: Sami Kivelä #1 (January 2027)
- Artists From the Abyss: Leomacs #1 (February 2027)
Each issue will feature a newly commissioned story from an all-star lineup of writers that includes Chris Condon, David and Maria Lapham, Greg Pak, Ben H. Winters, Matt Kindt, Joe R. Lansdale, Corinna Bechko, and J. Holtham.
According to Senior Editor Allyson Gronowitz, the project serves as a celebration of both EC’s historic legacy and the creators carrying it forward today.
“Across nearly a century of comics history, EC Comics has a strong claim to the greatest stable of artists ever assembled by a single publisher,” Gronowitz said. “With our new slate of acclaimed EC titles at Oni Press, it’s been a tremendous privilege to continue that tradition with some of the comics industry’s greatest living talents and fastest-rising stars. Now we’re celebrating this newest generation of EC artists, beginning with 32 pages of artwork by the incomparable Charlie Adlard.”
The announcement arrives just ahead of San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where Oni Press will host its “Oni Press: The Loudest Thing in Color” panel on Thursday, July 24 at 11 a.m. PT in Room 28DE. Attendees can expect additional announcements celebrating the publisher’s upcoming 30th anniversary alongside appearances from creators including Bryan Lee O’Malley, Tradd Moore, Tyler Crook, Curt Pires, Juan Gedeon, and Christian Ward.
