Ignition Press has revealed via AIPT that it can exclusively announce Mad Science Division, a new sci-fi horror comic from writer Dan Watters (Nightwing, TMNT: Shredder) and artist Brian Level (Venom: Black, White & Blood), launching this November.
The series follows Archimedes Anderson, an executive whose qualifications have less to do with experience and more to do with family connections. Sent to oversee the American branch of genetic engineering and bioweapons company Miyashi-Smith, his assignment is simple: slash the division’s budget by 30 percent and secure a promotion.
Unfortunately, he knows almost nothing about the highly dangerous experiments happening behind the laboratory doors.
As Anderson dismantles safeguards and disrupts the department’s carefully maintained balance, horrifying creations escape containment, leaving employees and the public to deal with the consequences of his reckless decisions.
Watters said returning to creator-owned comics gave him the chance to cut loose creatively.
“Mad Science Division is my first foray into creator-owned comics for a few years. I’ve been champing at the bit to work in this space again, and this book is an explosion of all the things I’ve wanted to do. I wanted to make something mad, gross, fun and funny, and I knew Brian was the perfect person to make that comic with. This story delights me. If you like any of my work at all, I think you’ll like this too.”
Level said the series feels perfectly suited to his creative sensibilities.
“Mad Science Division is a book that is specifically my brand of comic to make: strange, gross, funny, and unnerving. Dan and I get to run through a carousel of grotesqueries, mishaps, and frayed nerves while being grafted onto a unique band of rich characters. It’s been nothing but a freeing joy to produce this nightmare.”
Mad Science Division #1 arrives in comic shops on November 4, 2026, with preorders due by September 28th. The debut issue features colors by Lee Loughridge, letters by Frank Cvetkovic, two open-to-order covers by Brian Level and Riley Rossmo, plus a 1:10 incentive cover by Raúl Allén.
Fans attending San Diego Comic-Con can also find Ignition Press at Booth #5531 and visit the publisher’s free Ignition Pavilion pop-up throughout the convention.
