Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 06/24/2024

No better time to watch some entertaining television than the summer, and our Channel Surfing TV picks highlight some returning and new series. Follow the highs and lows of the restaurant game in the third season of The Bear. Explore an alternative history if a 16th century English queen was not executed in My Lady Jane. Then, DC comics receives the anime treatment in Suicide Squad Isekai

Lofty Goals

The restaurant, The Bear, has experienced quite a transformation since we metaphorically took our first steps into the establishment. It’s changed from rundown hole in the wall to a proper restaurant.

In the new season, Carmy has some high expectations for the business hoping the food can earn a Michelin star. In his quest he drives Sydney and the rest of the staff to perfection, but will he push too hard? Not to mention he must still deal with The Bear’s financial issues as well as try to patch up his rocky relationship with Claire.

The entire third season of The Bear drops Thursday, June 27, on Hulu.

A Romantasy Series

In actual history, both Prince Edward the VI and Lady Jane Grey met untimely ends due to illness and execution respectively. But what if both didn’t die so young? My Lady Jane reimagines an era where both, particularly the latter, survive.

The series still finds Lady Jane Grey becoming queen and she must deftly maneuver political enemies with their sights on her crown. With all that on her plate, the headstrong Jane also manages to find love and wants to pave her own path. The alternative history period piece combines elements of romance, fantasy, and comedy.

Stream My Lady Jane beginning Thursday, June 27, on Prime Video.

Through the Portal

The Suicide Squad have come off the comic page onto our screens through various media such as films and video games. Now the antihero team will feature in a new anime series entitled Suicide Squad Isekai

The roster is composed of Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface, and King Shark. They are sent through a magical portal into a world of magic and creatures. The team find themselves helping a kingdom vanquish a rival army in order to gain freedom and return home. But they better act fast since the bombs inside their necks will explode in 72 hours if not deactivated by Amanda Waller. Think of all the mayhem the Suicide Squad will cause in this fantasy realm all with an anime aesthetic and storytelling.

The first three episodes of Suicide Squad Isekai release Thursday, June 27, on Max and Hulu.
