Bryan Hill takes over as the sole writer of Postal this month. We also get a lot more information about the mystery girl from the end of last issue.

The Plot
- Never trust a girl who gleefully sings Sarah McLachlan’s best song while wearing a hood over her head.
- Mark’s hide and seek skills are on point.
- His game with Maggie…not so much. But at least she still seems to be digging him, anyway.
- In a town full of criminals, it’s really saying something that this new girl is so damn creepy.
- About time someone decided to go Fox Mulder on Eden. Too bad the person playing Director Skinner isn’t going to be helpful. Like, at all.
- Once again, Mark’s unique perspective cuts through the haze of strangeness surrounding the stuff that goes on in his town. Unfortunately, it looks like his curiosity about to get him into some serious trouble…
Is It Good?
For anyone worried about Matt Hawkins pulling back from the series, Postal #9 issue serves notice that we’re still in excellent hands with Bryan Hill. It’s not easy to make a character stand out in a creepy way when they’re surrounded by potential loonies and psychopaths, but Eden’s newest resident has already proven herself to be a supremely unsettling presence.
I also loved how Mark’s ability to dominate/take all the fun out of playing hide and seek circled back to help him figure out some crucial information. While all this is going on, Hill manages to weave a couple of intriguing subplots sprinkled with just the right amount of dark/awkward humor that we’ve come to expect each month.
There’s not really much to say Isaac Goodhart’s art that I haven’t already. But one thing that really impressed me in this particular issue was the way he paneled the ‘hide and seek’ sequence in the bar. It provides the reader with a great perspective on how Mark breaks down the information in front of him to construct an answer about what happened.
The issue does suffer a bit from the dangling plot threads, but I have complete faith in Hill to pull them tighter as Eden’s newest resident stirs things. It looks like 2015’s Best New Series is off to a great start in 2016.
