After receiving some harsh (very justified) words from his mom, Miles is looking to do some damage to take out his frustrations. Unfortunately, he didn’t pick a very good target.
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artist: Oscar Bazaldua
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Observations
- Even Hammerhead can seem cool when he’s being backed up by the Black Cat.
- I never liked Geometry much, either.
- Hate to say this, but Miles’ mom has a right to be angry/upset—and suspicious.
- Yeah, I’d much rather play superhero than study for a geometry test, too.
- Yeah, Ganke! YEAH!
The Verdict
Okay, as much as I like the budding romance between Ganke and the YouTuber (and the subtle reference to the new Spider-Man moving coming out this summer), the table has been set. Repeatedly. Let’s get to finding out if this is something real or a plot point that is going to lead to something else.
Other than that, Spider-Man #16 is a great look at how a good-hearted kid with incredible power might let off some steam…and how that can easily come back to bite him.
Also, how great does artist Oscar Bazaldua draw the Black Cat? She’s sensual without being turned into a porn star (like a lot of other artists like to portray her) mixed with a healthy dose of steel and intimidating. He also draws Hammerhead in a such a way that the character actually seems cool.
Speaking of cool, Miles has just participated in the time honored spider tradition of inserting himself smack dab in the middle of what promises to be a brutal gang war. Combine that with the equally traumatic turmoil taking over his personal life, and this latest story arc will not lack for drama or excitement.
