Entertainment Weekly’s latest ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ photos show off new alien races

Entertainment Weekly’s got the latest scoop on The Last Jedi in their special double issue, featuring two collectible covers featuring Luke Skywalker and Rey.

The publication has also released exclusive photos of the upcoming film, showing off some ships, an image of Rey and Luke’s meeting that began at the end of The Force Awakens and will presumably open The Last Jedi, and Chewbacca hanging out with a new alien race.

Also included in their coverage is a great interview with The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, who had this to say about Luke Skywalker’s role in the saga going forward:

The very first step in the writing of this was figuring out why he’s on that island. We know that he is not a coward. He’s not just hiding because he’s scared. But we also know that he must know his friends are in danger. He must know the galaxy needs him. And he’s sitting on this island in the middle of nowhere. There had to be an answer. It had to be something where Luke Skywalker believes he’s doing the right thing – and the process of figuring out what that is and unpacking it is the journey for Rey.

Check out all the images EW released below. Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters December 15, 2017.
