Actress Milly Alcock is hitting all the style marks during her press junket to promote Supergirl.
One outfit to note is the one she wore on June 19th in London, England at BBC Radio Studios. Here, she’s donning a Fidan Novruzova striped polo, denim jorts, Our Legacy brown belt, Alaia sunglasses, Chanel crumpled caviar quilted maxi bag, Jenny Bird chunky bangles, and red Vivaia sandals. The boxy fit is echoing the street style aesthetic of what I feel would be Supergirl’s off-duty look and – I’m obsessed.

Key style notes and why the fit perfectly honors her personal aesthetic and the film:
- The polo with its fold-over collar is remisnecent to Supergirl’s cape.
- Alaia glasses have this bug-eye look that echo her sunnies from the film’s teaser trailer
- The oversized chestnut/rust-colored Chanel bag gives a punk-rock androgynous look that mirrors the grungy mood of the film
- The colorway of the brown belt reminds me of the trench coat she wore in the open sequence of the film’s promo trailer
Sidenote followed by an unpopular opinion: these stylistic elements are what high/low fashion is all about. Refined touchpoints that carry key messaging but you must look for such symbolic details. I much prefer this than the kitschy Chanel sweater she wore (below) with a fat logo emblazoned on it. It just reads tacky ugly Xmas sweater to me. *cringe**

I get it. But no. DC/Warner Bros.
Anyhow, as a longstanding journalist who has reported on fashion for outlets like Vogue and Forbes, this London, England fit is ** chefs’ kiss**. 9/10
I think we need to take a moment for the red kitten heels that echo hero boots she wears in the film. Sure, she could have gone for a thigh-high boot IRL to really hammer home the message but honestly, I love me a little calf action (and it’s summer, so show off them gams). Visually, it’s a necessity as it also breaks up the boxy proportions. So the eye gracefully scans from top to bottom with ease.
Back to the kitten heels. May I say that it’s so refreshing to not see a celebrity wear 3-4 inch heels. (As someone who’s interviewed celebs on the red carpet, every smart journalist wears flats! But I digress). The heels are a massive physical strain on the body even if you’re only standing for a few minutes. These ‘baby-heels’ are far more practical at 2-inches. Vivaia‘s Round-Toe Kitten-Heel Sandals (EMELINE) in Ruby Red also won’t break the bank at $129. I also appreciate an ethically-minded brand that uses recycled materials to make their products with; they are also antimicrobial (with a lightweight upper mesh so there’s airflow to prevent odour-causing bacteria).

Alaia sunglasses reminded me of this look from the Supergirl teaser trailer, DC/Warner Bros.
All of these design elements seem sound. The only thing that gives me pause (because I’ve tested thousands of shoe brands, including wearing 2 1/2 block heels to New York Comic Con and taking over 20,000 steps in them) is the thong design. It can be massively PAINFUL if designed improperly (think blisters and bleeding toes). I haven’t tried these yet but I’ll report back when I do.
Lastly, I will say that the Vivaia brand is the most accessible (price point wise) from an everyday consumer POV standpoint (compared with everything else she is wearing. For comparison, the sweater alone is about $400). They have a bunch of unisex sneakers that would be perfect for those sprawling mega comic cons so I’d advise you to check that out first if you’re interested in the brand.
