The comics industry on the whole might be on a downturn, but Batman has staying power. That’s the big takeaway from last month’s list of best-sellers, which saw the caped crusader nab the top three spots with Scott Snyder’s heavily marketed Dark Nights: Metal #1 and Tom King’s excellent run on Batman with issues #28 and #29. Metal‘s sales are particularly impressive, with a whopping 261,997 sales.
On the Marvel side of things, Secret Empire sales have to be seen as a disappointment, especially the conclusion of the controversial summer event, with 86,123 sales. It did chew up three spots in the top ten, however, helping Marvel take seven of the top 10 spots on the list, rounded out by Star Wars #34 and #35. So it’s not all bad news for the House of Ideas.
That means that, for the first time in recent memory, The Walking Dead didn’t make the top 10. It was a mere 88 units sold underneath Star Wars #35, earning the number 11 spot.
