Doomsday Clock #3 reveals how the button ended up in the DC universe

The Comedian’s badge has had a long journey.

SPOILERS ahead. You’ve been warned.

Way back on May 25, 2016, readers picked up DC Rebirth expecting a shakeup of their characters they’ve seen a few times before. What they found was a huge revelation as Batman plucked Comedian’s bloody badge out of the wall in the Batcave. The caption was simple but to the point: “We’re being watched.”

With scant details, readers were finally given a few answers as DC released “The Button” crossover event between Batman and The Flash. Still, we didn’t know how or even why the Comedian’s badge was in Batman’s cave. Well, this week Doomsday Clock aims to show us how it at least entered the DC universe.

In a key flashback that opens Doomsday Clock #3, readers get to relive the moment Ozymondias knocked the Comedian out of a high rise building. As he falls and the curb comes ever closer Geoff Johns and Gary Frank slice in some black boxes, as if fading to black.
