In a complete accident Cave and his team end up in the middle of an endless tribal war.

Cave Carson has an Interstellar Eye #2 follows the first issue in that it is a fun, strange title that has great art by Michael Avon Oeming and writing by Jon Rivera. Oeming’s distinct art style brings a wackiness to the title that can only be found within Young Animal in modern day DC. The continued development of the many worlds that Cave explores is interesting as always and the second part of the Cave Carson Educational Podcast is a fun, laughable time as always.

So what’s it about?

The official summary reads:

Something is rotten in the subterranean state of Muldroog, the ancestral home of Cave’s wife Eileen (a.k.a. Princess Mazra P’thrall), forcing Cave to step out of adventurer retirement to solve this mystery. To do that, he must to steal a massive piece of mobile technology and recruit an old friend for this mission. Also in this issue: How Cave got that cybernetic eye. And explosions. Lots and lots of explosions.

One of the two warring factions in this week’s Cave Carson has a very ’80s action movie style name of Lazer Hawks, while the other one has a more mythical sounding name of Nejire. Their savior bears a slight resemblence to Cave that doesn’t pass further than the rough shape of his head and beard. The humor of the issue is great with Cave daydreaming out his memories rather than listening to a boring story by the Lazer Hawk leader, thinking he’s popular from his podcast of 12 subscribers and pointing out a pointless sacrifice is great. Humor is something this book tackles well.

The Cave Carson Education Podcast is also good fun as usual with character banter between Chloe and Cave that runs alongside the backstory expansion. It’s a great way to do it without going over the top with exposition within the main content of the issue.

Is it good?
A fun issue with some great humour and stunning art as usual.
The humor within the issue is actually funny.
The art by Oeming continues being trippy yet legible.
Rivera continues to write a fun, family themed book.
The podcast backups are a fun way to add more backstory.
The structure of the story can be confusing at times.
