Did you know that the first public use of May the Fourth be with you was actually in an article about British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher? Despite its odd connection to a very un-Star Wars like British politician, May 4th is one of the most anticipated days of the year for Star Wars fans. With the news that Solo: A Star Wars Story tickets are going on sale, this year’s Star Wars day may be the most fondly remembered ever. But how does Star Wars day compare to other famous days?

Independence Day

ID4 was an exciting movie filled with memorable moments and great special effects. The destruction of the White House is one of the most iconic scenes in cinema history. A paper-thin plot prevents it from being an all-time classic.

Green Day went from the “I liked them before they were popular” band to the “what a bunch of sell outs” in a few short years. They have a few catchy tunes, and even one or two good ones, but they have never been more than every high school student’s favorite band.

How much do I love Star Wars? For the past three years I have taken the day off from work to watch the newest Star Wars movie. I have missed potlucks, Secret Santa exchanges, and birthdays so I can give Star Wars my full attention. I probably would have called out if it wasn’t paid time off, but the decision may have been more difficult.
