It is with a heavy heart that we report the death of Steve Ditko, former Marvel Comics artist and co-creator of Spider-Man and Doctor Strange along with Stan Lee. Ditko was born November 2, 1927 and was 90 years old. No cause of death has been announced.
Ditko, along with Marvel Comics founder Stan Lee, created Spider-Man in 1961. He is credited with creating nearly everything you think about when you picture Spider-Man, from the web shooters to the iconic costume. He also worked with Lee to create Doctor Strange two years later in 1963. Ditko eventually left Marvel in the late 60s following an unclear conflict with Stan Lee, when he went on to work for other publishers, including DC Comics.
Ditko was infamously reclusive, and has no known survivors.
Rest in peace Steve Ditko. Thank you for sharing your imagination with the world.
