Fans immediately began theorizing that Murphy was creating a sequel to Batman: White Knight or working on a new project for DC’s Black Label imprint, featuring an Azrael title book.

It was widely assumed that the official announcement would come at New York Comic Con next week, but luckily for fans, the wait was even shorter.

Today Paste magazine is reporting that Murphy’s teaser art was the first look at Batman: Curse of the White Knight, the official sequel to Batman: White Knight, which will be released on DC’s Black Label imprint.

DC’s official synopsis on Batman: Curse of the White Knight reads:

In this explosive sequel to Sean Murphy’s critically acclaimed blockbuster BATMAN: WHITE KNIGHT, the Joker recruits a savage partner to help him expose a shocking revelation about the Wayne family’s legacy and run Gotham into the ground. As Batman rushes to protect the city and his loved ones from this corrupt conspiracy, the mystery of his ancestry unravels and deals a devastating blow to the Dark Knight. Exciting new villains and unexpected allies will clash across history in this unforgettable chapter of the WHITE KNIGHT saga–and the truth about the blood they shed will shake Gotham to its core!”

In his conversation with Paste, Murphy revealed that the seeds for White Knight were planted when he was 12 years old watching Batman: The Animated Series. “You know–the Joker would be a lot more threatening if he could stop acting crazy and get his s--t together“.

Murphy revealed that he’s rewriting a former Batman ally for Batman: Curse of the White Knight to become a threat worse than the Joker ever was for Gotham City and Batman. Hmmm, I wonder if he could be referring to a man with a flaming sword and templar origins?

We can more than likely expect further details on this project to be revealed at New York Comic Con, so be sure to check back with us, as we’ll be reporting on all DC news, panels and interviews out of the Big Apple.

Batman: Curse of the White Knight is scheduled for release some time in 2019.
