The large cast of Netflix’s upcoming series The Umbrella Academy turned out Friday night at New York Comic Con’s Netflix and Chills panel to discuss the show and their roles as well as to drop an exclusive first look at the series.
Based on the Eisner Award-winning gothic comic book series, The Umbrella Academy is about a disbanded superhero team who reunite after many years when the father who trained them mysteriously dies.

The cast includes Ellen Page, Mary J. Blige, Tom Hopper David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Aidan Gallagher, Robert Sheehan.
Blige and Britton are playing time-traveling assassins, though the latter described his character as also being depressed.
Sheehan and Gallagher each called their roles “chaos,” though the teenaged Gallagher is also portraying a 58-year-old man in the body of a child.
“This is definitely something absolutely refreshing,” said Blige who enjoyed learning how to shoot a gun and perform martial arts when training for the part. “I picked up some skills!”

Her role isn’t the only one with skills though. Ellen Page’s Vanya is talented with the violin. Though don’t think those skills transferred to the actress herself. “Just holding the goddamn thing is hard,” Page confessed.
“I couldn’t get big enough for this role,” admitted Hopper, who plays a character with super strength, “There’s no way I could have gymed up enough for this role.”
They also teased an epic dance montage sequence featuring much of the cast.
The complete first season of The Umbrella Academy will be available to stream on Netflix beginning Feb. 19, 2019.
