Fans around the world have been eagerly awaiting word on when the premiere date for Games of Thrones season 8 will be revealed. Well everyone, after months of anticipation HBO is finally going to let us in on the secret — you read that correctly, we’re finally going to learn when the eighth and final season will premiere.
HBO has kept Game of Thrones under a strict veil of secrecy leading up to the final epic six episodes that will end one of the most popular shows in the history of the network. Bits and pieces have been slipping out as we get closer and closer to the final season, and the actors of the series have been slyly dropping hints in interviews and on social media. But no real details have emerged on what fans can expect from the final season beyond the fact that it’s going out with a bang.
The network announced on Twitter Friday — in a cryptic tweet — that they will be revealing the premiere date before the start of the third season of True Detective, which airs Sunday January 13. Check out the Tweet below:

Fans of the series can rest assured that the final season promises to bring a conclusion to all of the series’ many overlapping story arcs and reveal the true lord of light — who’s the Seven Kingdom’s only hope against the Night King, the Others, and their countless legions of undead warriors.
David Nutter directed the first, second, and fourth episode, while Miguel Sapochnik nabbed the third and fifth, and finally series showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss directed the finale — which is only right given their massive contributions to the series.
But hey, don’t worry Game of Thrones fans — while this may be the end of this series, HBO already has a prequel series in the works dubbed The Long Night. The prequel series will take place thousands of years before the events in Game of Thrones during the mythical time known as the Age of Heroes, when the White Walkers first invaded Westeros.
