George R.R. Martin joined showrunner Ira Parker and the cast of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Thursday at New York Comic Con. They brought with them the new trailer and our first real look at the Westeros a hundred years before Game of Thrones:
The dynamic between the two lead character Dunk and Egg, was essential to the series, and actors Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell brought a similar relationship off screen. Ansell, 11, was just 9 years old when they filmed the show.
“This isn’t action sequences that are cut up very rapidly to give something a — It’s not a big, sprawling Game of Thrones we’ve come to know and love. This is close, and this is intimate, and it’s brutal, and this is hard. This is what it would have been like,” Parker said.
”I said I wanted to do something entirely set during a tournament because I found tournaments were very exciting,” Martin said of Dunk and Egg stories the series is adapting. Of the series, Martin threw Parker a challenge. “I said let’s do the best jousting sequence that has ever been done on film.”
“The jousting was a lot of fun,” Parker said. “We also did something hopefully nobody has ever seen before, which is a jousting tournament at night. I’m very excited for everybody to see that.”.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premieres on January 18th on HBO Max.
