According to Wikipedia, the story retells the famous fairy tale of Snow White from the point of view of Snow White’s stepmother, who is traditionally the villain of the piece. In this retelling, however, the stepdaughter is the monstrous villain.

This isn’t the first time Gaiman has worked with Doran, as they collaborated on Troll Bridge (read our review here). If it’s anything like Troll Bridge we’re in for a treat!

Expect Snow, Glass, Apples to arrive in bookstores August 7, 2019.

MILWAUKIE, Ore., (January 15, 2019)–Neil Gaiman’s chilling retelling of the Snow White fairytale,Snow, Glass, Apples has been gloriously adapted by Colleen Doran, who previously adapted Gaiman’s award-winning short story Troll Bridge.

Terrified of her monstrous stepdaughter and determined to repel the creature and save her kingdom, a not-so-evil queen desperately tries to stop a “happily” ever after that was never supposed to be. Stopping ever after, however, is no small task…

From the Hugo, Bram Stoker, Locus, World Fantasy, Nebula award-winning, and #1 New York Times bestselling writer Neil Gaiman (American Gods, Neverwhere, Coraline, The Graveyard Book, and many others) comes this graphic novel adaptation by Colleen Doran (Sandman, Troll Bridge)! Snow, Glass, Apples comes to you in a beautiful hardcover format and is an essential addition to the Dark Horse’s Neil Gaiman library program.

Snow, Glass, Apples goes on sale August 7, 2019, and is available for pre-order on Amazon and at your local comic shop.

Praise for Neil Gaiman and Colleen Doran’s Troll Bridge:

“But what makes Gaiman so much more effective is how he’s able to take these old legends and use them to help create an emotional and empathetic story… Doran, however, blows a different life into the scene. She captures the excitement and jubilation of childhood…” –Multiversity Comics

“I don’t need to tell anyone that Gaiman is a good writer. But, as a fan, it’s nice to be reminded of how good he can be.” –AiPT!

“I highly recommend this graphic novel but please, when you read it, take your time. Explore each beautiful page that Colleen Doran has created” –Outright Geekery
