We’ve seen some pretty amazing Power Suit Samus cosplay renditions in our time. Danielle Beaulieu’s Diablo/Metroid fusion comes to mind. Pixelninja’s Varia Suit is another.

But those two have their work cut out for them after Netherlands-based cosplayer Willow Creative flexed this jaw-dropping Power Suit Samus at the Dutch Comic Con this past weekend to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Super Metroid. Samus Varia suit! Yesterday was my first Samus photoshoot with @schmelzertobias at Landschaftspark in Germany and look at this first result! Just shivers all over when i first saw this after all the previews on the camera.. I still can't believe this is really me on there! The Samus cannon is done! I only used led electronics, no electronics to open the cannon. I made the cannon flaps open using a simple scissor mechanism four-ways. It closes with a spring over the center pipe and i squeeze it open with my hand by pulling a string. These parts are all 3d printed but the rest of the cannon is foam. The leds are addressable led strips so i can add animation and different colors to them with an arduino nano clone powered by a seperately wired usb powerbank. For the sunday photoshoot they will remain static however. Quick update on my Samus as I'm approaching completion! The last bits are the rubber banding in several places of her suit. I scored some knit jersey fabric in this great metallic weathered style a while ago and its perfect for this purpose. I sew it in banding on quilt batting to create the texture and then sew the segments together like regular clothing. I then added some lining under it, to avoid the batting on my skin and also to connect the various groups of rubber banding together. That way i dont have quilt batting all over my body so I don't overheat. The lining also allows me to stuff it more such as in the shoulders. Samus leds installed! Currently working on the legs and planning the undersuit, which will have some muscle elements to combat my small figure. I'm loving the visor, i have full range vision (the leds do make it worse however) and the effect is exactly how i wanted. The leds are a mix of 5v usb led strips and 12v 120 leds/m led strips, powered by usb powerbanks and 4x cr2032 battery packs respectively. Finished the samus helmet with an appropriate visor! It is fully see-though using an acrylic sheet with mirror foil, and i added a led strip around the edge for the cool led effect. This led strip is double the density of a regular ledstrip to completely eliminate hotspots at such close range (120 leds per meter), these only come in 12v so i soldered 2 battery packs in series to get it up to 12v (4x buttoncell of 3v). Added some led foam edging too!
