Warning: Spoilers for Game of Thrones S4E8, “The Last of the Starks” ahead.
Another episode of Game of Thrones‘s final season has come and gone and with it another beloved character has met their untimely demise: this time, Missandei, loyal advisor and handmaiden to Daenerys Targaryen since Season 3, when Daenerys freed her from life as a slave and interpreter in Astapor.
Missandei and the leader of the Unsullied army, Grey Worm, also became a romantic item over the course of the story, which made her execution in front of both of Daenerys and Grey Worm at the hands of Cersei Lannister and The Mountain extra disturbing to witness.
Before Missandei bought it though, she uttered her final words. Or word, that is: “Dracarys.” As we know by now, “dracarys” is the High Valyrian word for “dragonfire” and the command Daenerys uses to signal her dragons to light up her enemies with their fiery breath. Missandei’s actress Nathalie Emmanuel took to Twitter Sunday night to express her sentiments on Missandei’s final utterance.
We’re all hoping for the same thing, Nathalie.
If I had been Missandei, I still might have tried to latch on to Cersei, chains and all, and tossed both of our flailing bodies from the top of King’s Landing in a last ditch suicide pyrrhic victory attempt like in nineteen ninety eight when the Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell in a Cell, and plummeted sixteen feet through an announcer’s table — but I digress. We want to thank actress Nathalie Emmanuel for her wonderful portrayal of the intelligent, beautiful and loyal-to-the-end Missandei.
What did you think of Missandei’s final moments? Let us know in the comments.
