Gonna post more pro shots too but I FINALLY made my entire Starfire cosplay and wore it to MomoCon yesterday!! @xkirakelly was a bomb ass Blackfire with me too and I can’t wait to show you some of the photos we got together! I was really excited to wear this in part because I STILL see bullshit about Starfire not being a black woman blah blah blah Anna Diop (who is the best character on that show so suck it). . . . . . Let’s talk Titans. I felt compelled to do this makeup test in response to the blatant anti blackness masquerading as “fandom” after the Titans trailer release. I don’t have my full suit done but I really wanted to speak my mind and sorta prove a point. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ You can complain about her wig, complain about her not being orange, or even complain about her powers not being green. I’ve seen all of these complaints which are very fair. But what you not gonna do is sit here and say it’s bad casting because she is a black woman. I’ve seen too many a post, even from other fellow POC, saying that it would’ve looked so much better if she was Latina or White. Basically insinuating that even if she was orange, Anna Diop’s blackness disqualifies her from ever looking good in the role. Now I personally dislike how they have pretty much all of the characters styled (and don’t get me started on Robin’s “fuck batman” comment) but I just wanted to show that Starfire CAN BE A BLACK WOMAN. As a cosplayer, we know that styling is everything. While I had to edit my eyes green due to lack of sclera lenses, the rest is practical, just a wig and body paint. It’s not that hard y’all. Times like these further cements in my mind the reason why we have #blackcosplayerhere and #28daysofblackcosplay.
