Cover revealed for next Star Wars novel, Thrawn Ascendency: Chaos Rising

Timothy Zahn will deliver a third Thrawn trilogy in 2020.

Tuesday morning Del Rey revealed the cover, title, and release date for the first book in the Thrawn: Ascendency trilogy of Star Wars novels coming from author Timothy Zahn in May 2020 — Thrawn Ascendency: Chaos Rising.

Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising, is the first installment in a new trilogy about the infamous Grand Admiral Thrawn, a tactical genius and one of the most brilliant military minds within the Star Wars franchise.

Del Rey shared the announcement on Twitter.

Del Rey first announced the new trilogy at New York Comic Con in October 2019 and shared that the first installment would arrived in May 2020. Not much of the story is known beyond that it will be set prior to Thrawn’s departure from Chiss space on his secret mission to infiltrate and observe The Empire.

The new Thrawn: Ascendency trilogy will be the third that author Timothy Zahn has created since first introducing the character to Star Wars fans back in 1991 in Heir to the Empire. The Grand Admiral quickly became a fan favorite thanks to his exploits against The New Republic and has since appeared in two other novels, Specter of the Past and Vision of the Future, a second trilogy of books, and in the animated television series, Star Wars: Rebels.

Star Wars: Thrawn Ascendency: Chaos Rising will be released on May 5, 2020.
