Marvel Comics reveals a different kind of release schedule from May 27 to July 8 – also missing key X-Men titles

New comics coming soon, but what happened to X-Factor and Children of the Atom?

It has been quite quiet over at Marvel Comics when it comes to their next move in this self-quarantine world, but today they’ve offered up a full release schedule for the next month and a half. The schedule is a bit streamlined with fewer books coming out each week–typically Marvel shipped 15 to 25 books every week–and even more peculiar, they’re only releasing single issues every other week.

This is likely due to comic book shops not operating normally due to the pandemic and it’s likely harder for readers to get their books. Comic book fans may be less inclined to visit shops every week with this new order schedule since brand new stories will be released in a staggered format. That’s a good thing in some respect as most states still require people to stay in and self-quarantine.

Also of note, some key titles that were being pushed every week from their original release date don’t appear at all. Key titles that don’t appear like X-Factor #1–originally slated for April 22nd–won’t be released anytime soon. Children of the Atom is also absent which was slated to release April 15th. In fact, the list below contains no new series save for the much anticipated Doctor Aphra revival and the reprinting of X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills Extended Cut #1, which is now being released July 8 and was originally slated for April. Other premiere titles like X of Swords–originally slated for a July release–don’t appear and titles like Empyre are pushed way out which makes sense as things get back to normal but does give the event less of a summer blockbuster feel.

What does this mean for some of the most talked-about new comics coming from Marvel? More than likely it has something to do with waiting for things to get back to normal to maximize sales. DC Comics is holding the next issue of Batman, for instance, since that is a comic that’s usually in the top 3 for sales. Batman writer James Tynion IV said as much on his twitter.

Either way, we here at AIPT will be keeping our eyes peeled for the latest news on titles like X-Factor and will keep you informed the minute we get it!
