Valorant ranked play is now live

Riot Games is testing a key gameplay feature ahead of its upcoming summer launch.

Valorant is barely a month into its beta and it’s already taking over the gaming world. Riot Games’ new smash hit fps is breaking records on Twitch with a slew of channels, millions of viewers, overwhelmingly positive reviews, and, the game hasn’t even officially launched yet.

Today Riot Games delivered a new feature that lucky beta players have been asking for since the game opened its doors — ranked mode. The feature was teased in recent patch notes but Riot informed players that they wouldn’t release it until they were sure it was stable enough not to degrade the gameplay experience. Valorant’s official Twitter account made the announcement that ranked mode has officially arrived.

Riot warned players that it reserves the right to disable ranked mode at any time if things “get weird.”

It’s important to note that everything a player accomplishes in ranked mode on the beta will be wiped before the official Valorant launch later this summer. Which is typically how most developers handle the transition of ranked player from beta to live servers. One thing beta players do get to keep though is any premium currency they’ve purchased.

Valorant has eight different ranks with three tiers to each rank: Mercenary, Soldier, Veteran, Hero, Legend, Mythic, Immortal, and Valorant. That’s right, the top rank in Valorant is Valorant. I don’t know who at Riot thought that was a good idea, because no one playing the game appears to like it.

Anyway, you need to compete in 20 unrated matched to unlock competitive mode and you can queue in parties of up to five players, all within two ranks of one another. Your rank will not decay, but it also won’t display if you haven’t played competitive in the past 14 days.
