Summer is in full swing, and what better way to beat the heat than staying inside and enjoying indie darlings and Triple A hits releasing week after week? This year has a lot to live up to compared to 2023’s best video games, but it’s been strong so far with releases like Princess Peach: Showtime! and Little Kitty, Big City winning over gamers and cat lovers alike.
Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.
The Star Named EOS (7/23)
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox Series X/S
Behind the Frame developer Silver Lining Studio is back with another hand-drawn emotional adventure with The Star Named EOS. You’ll play as fledging photographer Dei as he ventures out in the footsteps of his absent mother on a journey to recreate old photos she sent him. Through the photos, he’ll uncover truths about their past. Gameplay-wise, The Star Named EOS tasks you with documenting the world around you and solving light puzzles.
Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure (7/25)
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, and Switch
Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure delivers exactly what its title promises. You’ll play as small town misfit Jemma as she sets off on a journey of self-discovery — through puzzles. Arranger‘s gameplay takes advantage of its unique grid for exploration, puzzles, and combat. When Jemma moves, anything on the same row or column as her moves as well, and can even loop around to other side, which will prove necessary for the puzzles that utilize Arranger‘s central mechanic.
Cataclismo (7/22)
Platform: PC
Moonlighter and The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story devs Digital Suns Games launches its next title into early access this week. Instead of another action-adventure game, Cataclismo is a base-building RTS. You’ll build a castle brick by brick to withstand “endless waves of horrors” each night. Venture out and lead expeditions outside the safety of your walls in hopes of reclaiming ruins and rebuilding a home for humanity.
