Really Dumb Pop Culture Questionnaire: Sweeney Boo

A fun and frivolous way to better understand your favorite creators.

Welcome to another edition of our Really Dumb Pop Culture Questionnaire. As its name might suggest, it’s a fun and frivolous way for creators to share their most asinine opinions on all things pop culture. Because being dumb doesn’t mean something still isn’t valuable. (Usually.)

For this edition, we quizzed artist/illustrator Sweeney Boo, who most recently released her graphic novel Eat, and Love Yourself through BOOM! Studios. She’s also developed costume designs for “Marvel Rising,” created a cover and short story for Image Comics’s Rat Queens, and had work published with IDW, Marvel, and Archie Comics.

Listen to the latest episode of our weekly comics podcast!

Really Dumb Pop Culture Questionnaire: Sweeney Boo

You wake up one day in a movie. Which one do you choose and why?

Harry Potter, but pre-Voldemort world. I’d give up everything to go study at a wizard school.

If you had to recast the Phantom of the Opera in something you wrote/drew, what would it be? And why?

I’ve never actually seen the Phantom of the Opera, and I feel like I should probably fix that!

Who would win in a fight (and why): Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) or Jack Skellington?

I’d say Green Lantern, he could use his powers to generate something big enough to crush Jack Skellington!

Would you rather live in the Pokemon universe or the Star Trek universe (and why)?

Hmmm…. Pokemon has a lot of cute creatures, and it’s colorful but it’s basically hunting and making your creature fight for you. While Star Trek has a money free society, where there is no hunger or greed and everyone is on a same base lifestyle. I’m more into that.

What’s the one superpower you’d give to your worst enemy?

Turning into a pile of goo, like Alex Mac.

What villain or hero would you move from one franchise into another and why?

James Bond, in the Marvel universe. I’m imagining him surrounded by the Avengers, how his interactions with Tony Stark could be, and I think it would be hilarious.

Who’s more likely to be a better dancer (and why): Aquaman or The Hulk?

The Hulk. I bet he knows how to dab.

What’s the one comic title that could describe your life?

Quiet Girl in a Noisy World: An Introvert’s Story by Debbie Tung.

You have to adapt one book from your childhood into a comic project. Which one and why?

I was obsessed with The Worst Witch by Jill Murphy when I was a kid. I have been fascinated by witches as far as I can remember, and in the contrary of Harry Potter (which I also really love), this story was more about a shy clumsy girl that is just trying to fit it. This resonated with me a lot when I was a child.

If you had to have a best friend from popular fiction, who would you choose and why?

Samwise Gamgee. He is such a sweet and loyal friend, he will always be here for you.

You have to cast one comic character into a famous film — who do you pick and why?

Loki as Mister Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. I want to believe that Loki is much more under his layer of revenge and hate that he carries. Mr. Darcy has this very cold and unapproachable behavior but is a very kind and loyal person when you know him, just like I imagine Loki to be.

What’s the one superhero you’d want to start a business with (and why)?

I can tell you which one I wouldn’t start a business with: it’s Jessica Jones. I’m a control freak, I and feel like she would drive me crazy.
