Best Friends Forever is a short film by Emily Gagne and Josh Konngut that is about vengeance, adolescent cruelty, and loneliness. On a stormy night in 1996, a group of young girls gather around Eden, the quintessential queen bee as she recounts the legend of Nancy. Nancy is a story about a lonely girl whose search for friends leads to a prank which results in her disappearance. Best Friends Forever is a fun short film that uses classic horror tropes and a simple vengeance plot line to tell an ageless story about respecting others.
This film has all the ingredients for a scary story. Rain and thunder, parents are out for the night, and a mean girl who knows how to tell a story and boss people around. Allison Holley, who plays Eden, the leader of the group, does an excellent job as the villainous friend. Her facial expressions and delivery are expertly haughty and cruel.
Michelle Coburn and Nicole Samantha Hutt also put in some strong performances as young girls who follow the leader, but are not quite sure why they need to. Katelyn Wells gives a standout performance as Candis, the lonely girl who finds herself the target of Eden’s mean girl tactics. Wells delivers a range of emotions from fear to hysteria as she finds herself in the middle of a waking nightmare.
Best Friends Forever is a fun with some pretty humorous, although creepy effects, that go with the tone of the film. The actors and filmmakers are enjoying themselves and this comes through for the audience. Stay tuned for the credits for a fun music number that is both campy and wonderful.
