Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 06/15/2020

It’s a supernatural kind of week with amnesiac werewolves, witch camp counselors and one vengeful vampire.

All the Channel Surfing TV picks this week are shows heading into their second season that deal with the supernatural. Though two of them play up the suspense and horror, there is at least one tamer selection. An epic conflict between werewolves and magicians continues in Netflix’s The Order. June is the perfect time to attend the enchanted Summer Camp Island for some wholesome fun. After awakening from a coma, Charlie Manx is looking for payback and more souls of children to feed upon in NOS4A2.

Regaining Memories

Netflix knew they had a hit on their hands shortly after The Order debuted March of last year on the streaming service. The same month, they announced they had renewed the horror drama series for an additional season.

The second season is set to premiere this Thursday, June 18, and will continue following the underground struggle between werewolves and the magical dark arts. We’ll see what happens after the cliffhanger where Jack and his allies’ minds were completely wiped and Vera plans what’s next for The Order.

Magical Summer Camp

If you’re looking for something in the genre with a lighter tone, Summer Camp Island might be it. This animated series originally premiered on Cartoon Network and is about two childhood friends, Oscar and Hedgehog, who attend a mystical camp and interact with creatures from fantasy.

The sophomore season will make the move to HBO Max and will also stream this Thursday, June 18. Oscar and Hedgehog make friends with monsters and yetis, learn arts and crafts from witches and meet a talking moon. This is all while they discover their own magical potentials.

Seeking Vengeance

Famed horror writer, Joe Hill, already has one television show that aired this year with the long in development Netflix program, Locke and Key. This week, a second series adapted from his work is set to return for a new season.

NOS4A2 season two is coming to AMC this Sunday, June 21. It picks up eight years after the first season where Vic McQueen continues her quest to destroy Charlie Manx and save the children of Christmasland. At the same time, Manx looks for revenge by targeting Vic’s son, Wayne, as his next victim.
