Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 06/22/2020

The return of The Twilight Zone, the Doom Patrol, and Adventure Time.

Thursday is the big day for the Channel Surfing TV picks for this week that all air on streaming services. Jordan Peele narrates the second season of The Twilight Zone revival. Then over at HBO Max, Doom Patrol makes its debut on the streaming platform for its second season. In addition, the first of four new Adventure Time specials arrives with Adventure Time: Distant Lands – BMO.

Re-imagining of a Classic

Hollywood is always looking for the next classic franchise to reboot and introduce to new audiences. Last year, Jordan Peele put his own slant on the anthology series that incorporates science fiction, fantasy, and horror, The Twilight Zone.

The show is set to return this Thursday, June 25, on CBS All Access. This time instead of being released weekly, all ten episodes will be released at once for maximum bingeability. The second season will use introspection and self-exploration to usher viewers to another dimension. Peele will reassume his role as host and there will be an exciting cast of guest stars making appearances including Morena Baccarin, Tony Hale, Jurnee Smollett, and more.

The Weirdos are Back

DC’s strangest superhero team, the Doom Patrol, are back and have to save the world once more in an all new season. When we last left this mismatched crew, all but Larry were reduced to the size of a cockroach. So, first things first, the team needs to get back to regular size. Afterwards, they can work through their own baggage and their trust issues with the Chief. They also have to incorporate their newest member, Dorothy Spinner.

The first three episodes of the second season of Doom Patrol will be released on Thursday, June 25, on both DC Universe and HBO Max. This show is a must watch for any DC Comics fan.

Return to the Land of Ooo

It’s been almost two years since the last episode of Adventure Time aired on Cartoon Network. Season 11 continued the stories, but in comic form from Boom! Studios. However, the series’ showrunner, Adam Muto, didn’t consider these tales canon.

What is canon are the upcoming four specials in Adventure Time: Distant Lands. The specials will explore unseen corners of the world following characters that are both familiar and new. The first will feature BMO as the little robot responds to a deadly space emergency in the farthest reaches of the galaxy.

Adventure Time: Distant Lands – BMO will air on HBO Max on Thursday, June 25.
