Back to the Future, Transformers, announce new DeLorean Autobot

Hasbro and IDW celebrate Back to the Future’s 35th anniversary, with a new toy and comic.

In celebration of Back to the Future’s 35th anniversary, Hasbro, Universal Brand Development, Amblin Entertainment, and IDW have announced a new collaboration that will deliver a brand new Transformer to the ranks of the Autobots — Gigawatt. The new time-traveling Transformer will help commemorate 35 years of audiences enjoying Back to the Future franchise.

Gigawatt joins the Transformers franchise as the newest member of the Autobots and makes his debut as a new toy that transformers into the iconic DeLorean that Marty McFly and Doc Brown used to travel through time.

Listen to the latest episode of our weekly comics podcast!

The newest Autobot stands at 5.5 inches in Robot mode and can transformer to his time-traveling DeLorean mode in 17 steps. Fans will notice that Gigawatt spots Doc Brown style goggles, the infamous flux capacitor as a chest piece, time circuits, and a trusty blaster. As with all DeLorean’s this Transformer’s gullwing doors open just like you’d expect them to, vertically, and the wheels rotate from vertical to horizontal just as Doc’s time machine did when it was ready to fly through the air.
